Checked samples by sample type
Between July 18 – 31, 2020, 98 samples were checked: 72% (71) were substances and 28% (27) were used paraphernalia.
Checked samples by expected drug
When a sample is submitted to be checked, the drug that sample is expected to contain is recorded. Of the 98 samples checked between July 18 – 31, 2020:
- 45 were expected to be fentanyl
- 13 were expected to be methamphetamine
- 6 were expected to be cocaine
- 5 were expected to be crack cocaine
- 5 were expected to be GHB
- 4 were expected to be MDMA
- 14 were expected to be other drugs, including: 3-MeO-PCE, 4-FA, benzodiazepine, codeine, DMT, heroin, hydromorphone, ketamine, LSD, morphine, psilocybin, and Viagra
- 5 were expected to be a polysubstance
- 1 did not have a stated expected drug
Expected fentanyl samples
Of the 98 samples checked between July 18 – 31, 2020, 46% (45) were expected to be fentanyl (53% were substances and 47% were used paraphernalia).
Presence of fentanyl in expected fentanyl samples (45)
- 11% (5) contained no fentanyl
- 89% (40) contained fentanyl and other drugs
Expected fentanyl samples containing fentanyl and other drugs (40)
Of the 45 samples expected to be fentanyl, 89% (40) contained fentanyl and other drugs. Other drugs found included:
- 95% (38) contained caffeine
- 48% (19) contained one or more benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine-related drug*:
- 43% (17) contained etizolam*
- 8% (3) contained flualprazolam*
- 3% (1) contained alprazolam (Xanax)*
- 43% (17) contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
- 25% (10) contained methamphetamine
- 25% (10) contained norfentanyl*
- 20% (8) contained acetyl fentanyl*
- 13% (5) contained fentanyl (hydroxy)*
- 5% (2) contained AMB-FUBINACA (synthetic cannabinoid-related)*
- 5% (2) contained phenacetin*
- 3% (1) contained ACHMINACA (synthetic cannabinoid-related)*
- 3% (1) contained furanyl UF-17 (opioid-related)*
- 3% (1) contained valeryl fentanyl*
Other expected drug samples containing unexpected noteworthy drugs
Of the remaining 53 samples checked between July 18 – 31, 2020, meaning samples that were not expected to be fentanyl, 11% (6) contained one or more unexpected noteworthy drug. Unexpected noteworthy drugs found included:
- 100% (5) of expected crack cocaine samples contained phenacetin*
- 60% (3) of expected crack cocaine samples contained levamisole*
- 100% (1) of samples that did not have a stated expected drug contained phenacetin*
*Unexpected noteworthy drug: “Noteworthy drugs” are drugs that are highly potent, linked to overdose or other adverse effects, or may not be desired by some clients. Noteworthy drugs are called out when they are unexpectedly found in checked samples.
