Between June 20 – July 3, 2020, 19 samples were checked: 47% (9) were substances and 53% (10) were used paraphernalia.

Checked samples by expected drug

When a sample is submitted to be checked, the drug that sample is expected to contain is recorded. Of the 19 samples checked between June 20 – July 3, 2020:

  • 9 were expected to be fentanyl
  • 2 were expected to be amphetamine
  • 2 were expected to be heroin
  • 2 were expected to be methamphetamine
  • 4 were expected to be other drugs, including: cocaine, GHB, LSD, and MDMA

Expected fentanyl samples

Of the 19 samples checked between June 20 – July 3, 2020, 47% (9) were expected to be fentanyl (11% were substances and 89% were used paraphernalia).

  • 89% (8) contained fentanyl and other drugs

Of the 9 samples expected to be fentanyl, 89% (8) contained fentanyl and other drugs. Other drugs found included:

  • 88% (7) contained caffeine
  • 63% (5) contained one or more benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine-related drug*:
    • 50% (4) contained etizolam*
    • 13% (1) contained flualprazolam*
  • 63% (5) contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
  • 25% (2) contained furanyl UF-17 (opioid-related)*
  • 13% (1) contained furanylethyl fentanyl*
  • 13% (1) contained norfentanyl*
  • 13% (1) contained phenacetin*

Other expected drug samples containing unexpected noteworthy drugs

Of the remaining 10 samples checked between June 20 – July 3, 2020, meaning samples that were not expected to be fentanyl, 10% (1) contained one or more unexpected noteworthy drug. Unexpected noteworthy drugs found included:

  • 50% (1) of expected heroin samples contained b-methyl acetyl fentanyl*
  • 50% (1) of expected heroin samples contained one or more benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine-related drug*
  • 50% (1) of expected heroin samples contained fentanyl*
  • 50% (1) of expected heroin samples contained n-methyl norfentanyl*

 

*Unexpected noteworthy drug: “Noteworthy drugs” are drugs that are highly potent, linked to overdose or other adverse effects, or may not be desired by some clients. Noteworthy drugs are called out when they are unexpectedly found in checked samples.
