Checked samples by sample type
Between May 23 – June 5, 2020, 45 samples were checked: 56% (25) were substances and 44% (20) were used paraphernalia.
Checked samples by expected drug
When a sample is submitted to be checked, the drug that sample is expected to contain is recorded. Of the 45 samples checked between May 23 – June 5, 2020:
- 19 were expected to be fentanyl
- 7 were expected to be ketamine
- 5 were expected to be crack cocaine
- 5 were expected to be methamphetamine
- 5 were expected to be other drugs, including: heroin, MDMA, oxymetholone, and testosterone
- 2 were expected to be a polysubstance
- 2 did not have a stated expected drug
Expected fentanyl samples
Of the 45 samples checked between May 23 – June 5, 2020, 42% (19) were expected to be fentanyl (37% were substances and 63% were used paraphernalia).
Presence of fentanyl in expected fentanyl samples (19)
- 11% (2) contained no fentanyl
- 89% (17) contained fentanyl and other drugs
Expected fentanyl samples containing fentanyl and other drugs (17)
Of the 19 samples expected to be fentanyl, 89% (17) contained fentanyl and other drugs. Other drugs found included:
- 94% (16) contained caffeine
- 35% (6) contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
- 29% (5) contained one or more benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine-related drug*:
- 29% (5) contained etizolam*
- 6% (1) contained flualprazolam*
- 24% (4) contained 6-MAM (heroin-related)
- 18% (3) contained ACHMINACA (synthetic cannabinoid-related)*
- 18% (3) contained phenacetin*
- 6% (1) contained furanyl UF-17 (opioid-related)*
- 6% (1) contained levamisole*
Other expected drug samples containing unexpected noteworthy drugs
Of the remaining 26 samples checked between May 23 – June 5, 2020, meaning samples that were not expected to be fentanyl, 23% (6) contained one or more unexpected noteworthy drug. Unexpected noteworthy drugs found included:
- 100% (5) of expected crack cocaine samples contained phenacetin*
- 100% (1) of expected heroin samples contained ACHMINACA (synthetic cannabinoid-related)*
- 100% (1) of expected heroin samples contained one or more benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine-related drug*
- 100% (1) of expected heroin samples contained fentanyl*
*Unexpected noteworthy drug: “Noteworthy drugs” are drugs that are highly potent, linked to overdose or other adverse effects, or may not be desired by some clients. Noteworthy drugs are called out when they are unexpectedly found in checked samples.
